The Vitrified
Print courses are usually one or two weeks long aimed at those
with some experience either of print and/or ceramics and/or glass.
They are suitable for artists wishing to develop a particular aspect
of process or technique, or for those who wish to understand the
range of processes available for artists in their own studios.
Paul is well known for his research through his books (in particular
Ceramics and Print), curated exhibitions, and workshops held around
the world. Vitrified Print courses have formed an important part
of the developing knowledge in the field, and are well known for
being very informative and hugely enjoyable.
Courses are structured to encourage student research interests
to take priority over a rigid teaching format - allowing the individuals
to develop technique or process with accompanying expert guidance.
For those wishing to have a specific program of work a typical
course, will concentrate initially on direct drawing – mono-print
transfers, then go on to consider processes from the following
- relief and intaglio printing, screen-printing and lithography.
There is always some consideration of traditional decal production
but unless there are specialist facilities courses concentrate
on alternative transfer technologies, direct printing and the
role of laser printer and photocopier in ceramic and glass
transfers. Emphasis is always placed on developing high quality
work and processes using minimal specialist equipment, so that
participants are be able to continue using the new technologies
and methodologies in their own studios.
Courses always include a series of illustrated lectures on printed
ceramics, their origins and contemporary roles and functions.
