Paul
Scott creates individual pieces that are exacting and critical,
he blurs boundaries between fine art and design
Paul Scott is an artist best known for his research into ceramics and print.
As well as making individual artworks and artefacts for exhibition and
sale, his practice is diverse, and includes working to commission, teaching,
writing and curating.
Research has always played a key role in all aspects of his practice -
from investigating the technical methodologies of print transfers to the
synthesis of historical form and contemporary artefact embodied in his
Cumbrian Blue(s) artworks. As a result, he has ongoing connections with
a number of Universities and Ceramic Research Centres. In 2005 was awarded
a Phd Bursary at MIRIAD, Manchester Metropolitan University for his project
Ceramics Landscape Memory and Confection.
He teaches The Vitrified Print workshop/master-class twice each year at
the International Ceramic Research Centre, Skælskør, Denmark
and Kurszentrum Ballenberg, Switzerland.
Paul’s commissioned work can be found in public places in the North
of England, including Carlisle, Maryport, Gateshead and Newcastle upon
Tyne. His ceramic printed objects are in private and public collections
around the world including Tullie House Carlisle Museum and Art Gallery,
The National Museum Stockholm Sweden, The National Decorative Arts Museum
Norway, and the Victoria and Albert Museum London. He is a member of Contemporary
Applied Arts, London and the International Academy of Ceramics.
