In 2006
I was commissioned to create an artwork for the new public toilets
in Workington Town Centre in Cumbria.
I worked with poet Robert Drake, and he created a textual journey,
describing the journey of the water from landing on the fells
as raindrops - to their eventual flushing out into the Irish
Sea (via
the public loos in Workington).
I illustrated his text. We also
examined Workington’s sense of history and place and its
relationship to other places in the world called Workington. Finally
as we worked on the commission the Corus plant specializing in
the production of railway lines was closing…. images from
the Corus site were transformed into patterns for the WC doors.
