This stared out as a wordpress blog, but unhappy with the format and the recent appearance of adverts by google on the site I have relocated it all here...
I’m working on a commission for the Shipley Art Gallery. I’m intending to blog as the work develops in a way that reflects my research and working processes – so that interested viewers/readers have some idea of how my brief eventually turns into resolved artwork. The intention is that this blog will enable others to contribute to the research process – allowing people to post links to relevant places, objects, narratives, stories etc – or even upload images that could be of interest to me.
For starters – to get some idea about the project here’s a brief outline.. I’ve been asked to create an artwork for the Shipley to be added to the permanent collection of contemporary craft. I’ve been asked to listen to residents responses to change and regeneration in Gateshead, as a place to live, grow up and grow old, and examine its collective memory. This looks to be a pretty wide and open remit – but actually whenever I am working on a new artwork I always collect lots of information… Distilling it down into something coherent and workable involves selecting out and deciding on a direction that is achievable.
