Christiana, Leuwarden and Tyneside
18 May 2009
To complete the blog of my March/April adventures in Denmark and Sweden... After my afternoon meeting at the ECA on April 2 I stayed with friend Ane-Katrine von Bulow in Christiana. Trine and I have worked together on a number of salt and soda kiln firings over the past couple of years. Her home in Christiana in the heart of Copenhagen was tranquil - like a place in the countryside.
The next day I drove to Leeuwarden in the Netherlands. Long drive and at 24ºc as I travelled through northern Germany amazingly warm for early April. Stayed at a nice B&B in a small nearby village and the next day sent time in the Princessehof ceramic museum. Amazing museum, wonderful collection and lovely town.
Afternoon - ferry from Ijmuiden back to Newcastle... Cool and grey as we pass the beach houses on the way out of Holland.... Sailing up the Tyne pass a very odd looking ship... I later learn that it is carrying the last dry dock from Swan Hunters - on its way to India...
