Hanoi Mosaic Mural The Hanoi Mosaic Mural 11 February 2010 In late March I’m off to Vietnam to contribute to the Hanoi Mosaic Mural - which when complete will cloak a 6 km length of concrete wall alongside one of the city’s main roads. The project is the brain-child of Nguyen Thu Thuy, and has been in the making for a number of years. Artwork along the mosaic has been made by a mixture of community effort, mailed contributions (tiles) from around the world, and by invited resident artists. The British Council in Vietnam is supporting my involvement. Below is my section of wall awaiting artwork. My intention is to create blue and white vegetation digitally grown from European tableware patterns - which themselves were created after floral decorative borders from the Far East. My hope is that this new patterning will in turn be re-interpreted in its life size realization in Vietnam. More to follow on this.
