Commission work Maryport Business Centre 29 July 2009 Taken a while, but here’s a blog update. <a href="http://maryportbusinesscentre.co.uk/business_centre_home.asp">Maryport Business Centre</a> (in Cumbria) is being built on the site of the old Hornflowa button factory on the Workington road. I’m doing artwork to be installed in the glazed brick roundels on the external wall, some signage and visuals for the reception area. Work links with earlier commissioned pieces in the town - signage, interpretation panels - and the North Harbour flood defence wall. Maryport has a distinctive industrial history, from its fishing and side-launched ships, to inventive engineering processes in its railway, and later button manufacture. The <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maryport_and_Carlisle_Railway">Maryport and Carlisle Railway </a>was the first public railway in the country they built their own engines introducing steel boilers and fueling by coal instead of coke - and Hornflowa held several patents on button forming techniques. The artwork references these - plus looking to the future - the wind turbines just down the road at Siddick and over the Solway. Here’s some mock ups of how the artwork will appear later in the year.... first one set of porcelain tiles ready cut in my studio awaiting their decals...
